The Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources is accepting applications through February 6, 2006, for its Lake Superior Area Forestry Leader position, as well as other Area Forestry Leader-Organized Protection vacancies that occur. The top candidate will have a strong commitment to forest management and forest fire protection, involving a number of public and private sector partners.

The Division of Forestry’s Lake Superior Area Forestry Leader manages the full suite of the State’s forestry/fire program in the Brule River State Forest and Ashland, Bayfield, Douglas and Iron counties.

This position is one of nine Area Forestry Leader-Organized Protection located statewide who manage teams that not only provide sustainable forest management services on public and private forest lands, but also are responsible for prevention, detection and suppression of forest fires within large dispatch group areas. Among this Area Forestry Leader’s responsibilities are:

Consistent application of statewide policies on private and public lands.
Champion external partnerships and integration, including among other DNR programs.
Foster effective working relationships with county forest departments, as well as local and federal levels of government.
Oversee and perform area wide fire readiness duties, including Incident Commander of emergency Incident Management Teams.
Supervise and mentor team members to reach high-levels of technical, managerial and interpersonal competencies.
Oversee compliance with the Managed Forest Law and other forestry-related laws.
Salary:
$41,135 and $56,000, depending on experience
