Desire to teach guests of all ages and backgrounds. Strong public communication and interpretive skills. Plus Points: Previous paddling experience is strongly recommended. Veterinary training or animal rehabilitation experience. A background of working with children or formal educational training. Basic computer skills. Previous work in an interpretive center or nature/outdoor industry. Degree (or working toward a degree) in Biology, Marine Science, Geology, Environmental Science or a related field. Intern applicants must be at least one year into their field of study. Ability to lift 40lbs overhead and work outdoors in extreme heat and humidity. Must be able to work well with others in a team environment. Certification in CPR and First Aid.

Just 21 miles south of historic Charleston on the South Carolina coast, Kiawah Island is a 10,000-acre barrier island graced with vast salt marshes, beautiful maritime forests and over 10 miles of beach. The varied habitat of the island makes Kiawah home to more than 200 species of birds, 30 species of reptiles and amphibians, and 18 species of mammals.

Description:
Seasonal Naturalist and Internship positions are available in the Kiawah Island Resort Nature Program. The Nature Program staff offers the guests a unique opportunity to explore the rich natural history of Kiawah Island through canoe and kayak excursions, interpretive walks, bike tours, children’s programs, and classroom sessions. Staff members conduct tours providing in-depth interpretation on the ecology and history of Kiawah Island and the surrounding area. The program also features a Nature Center with interpretive information and displays.
