The ideal candidate would have academic training and/or experience in natural resources management, with at least some background in forestry. Additional desirable qualifications include forest management, forest operations, GIS, remote sensing, economics, and/or business management. Interest and abilities in community outreach, social issues, and forest policy analysis are also desirable. Candidates must meet admission requirements for the Ph.D. in Forestry degree.

The School of Forestry has 21 tenure-track faculty administering a SAF-accredited Forestry BS degree plus an active graduate (MF, MS and Ph.D.) research program in forestry. Our building is shared with the USDA Forest Service\'s Rocky Mountain Research Station. Flagstaff has a population of 57,000 year-round residents and at 7,000 feet elevation, is located in the world’s largest contiguous ponderosa pine forest. The area is rich in sites of anthropological/historical significance and features numerous national parks and monuments throughout the Colorado Plateau including the Grand Canyon.

Description:
A research assistantship is available for a highly qualified Ph.D. student with interests and abilities in the area of stewardship contracting on public forest lands. The assistantship is funded for 2.5 years, beginning May, 2006. The successful candidate would be expected to assist in the development of proposals for outside funding to supplement and/or extend the assistantship.
