Agency Description: The Forestry Division (Division) works with communities to promote healthy, sustainable forests in New Mexico. The Division has 65 dedicated employees, located in field offices throughout the state as well as the main office in Santa Fe, NM. Our “Service Foresters” provide forest management programs and expertise to cooperators. The Division is responsible for wildland fire suppression and conservation law enforcement on state and private lands. The Division also directs minimum-security inmates to conduct conservation projects on public lands. The Division values leadership and teamwork that results in accomplishment. Description:
The Staff Forester duties include, but are not limited to, promoting sound silvicultural practices, inspecting commercial/non commercial timber harvesting operations, and providing appropriate responses to insect/disease outbreaks on private and state lands. Provide community collaboration opportunities for private landowners and working groups, to include the Forest Land Enhancement Program, Stewardship Management Program, and Wildland Urban Interface work. Offer educational outreach to schools, civic groups and government organizations on Forest Health. Afford resource protection by assisting with Wildfire Suppression and Management. Assist communities and cooperators with the development of viable, value added forest product industries and products in the state of New Mexico.
