B.S. Degree in Forest Management or related natural resources degree from a SAF-accredited college or university required; and a Master's in Forest Management preferred. Experience in technical and professional forestry work; ability to work independently; ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with personnel from various state and federal agencies, local planners, cooperators, and the public; public speaking skills and experience; demonstrated excellent oral, written, and interpersonal communication skills; valid drivers license; ability to occasionally travel around the state and stay overnight; and experience with and ability to effectively use a PC and Microsoft Office software required.. A fingerprint-based criminal history check will be required for final candidate.

The Virginia Department of Forestry is searching for two Foresters to assist the RC&D Councils in Eastern and Western Virginia to develop and expand forestry programs and related projects. Incumbent assists these councils with on-going projects dealing with forestry related urban interface, fire risk, rural development, natural resource, and quality of life issues. The incumbent is expected to provide project and grant management oversight; seek outside funding for projects; and develop partnerships with local groups and organizations to help further the forestry program. Incumbent works with local DOF personnel and keeps them informed of projects in their area. He/she is also expected to assist in fire suppression activities and other emergency duties that may involve DOF.
