QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS AT THE GS-7 GRADE LEVEL: Applicants must have 1 year of specialized experience equivalent in level of difficulty and responsibility to the next lower level in the Federal service. This experience is typically in, or related to, the work of the position being filled and must have equipped the applicant with the knowledge, skills, and abilities listed below. OR EDUCATION SUBSTITUTION AT THE GS-7 GRADE LEVEL: Successful completion of 18 semester hours of graduate level education in wildlife. Education must be obtained from an accredited college or university. OR COMBINATION OF EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE AT THE GS-7 GRADE LEVEL: Equivalent combinations of successfully completed education and experience may be used to meet the total qualification requirements. The total percentage must equal at least 100 percent to qualify.

Description:
This position is located at Eglin Air Force Base in Okaloosa County,
Florida. Incumbent serves as a Biological Science Technician in the
Wildlife Services (WS) Program, Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service,
USDA. The work is primarily concerned with WS technical assistance and
operations relating to cessation, alleviation, or mitigation of problems
caused by wildlife to protect natural resources and property. The major
issues addressed by this position are the overall protection of rare
plants, animals and habitats from feral hogs and a variety of other
mammalian species.

Major duties include, but are not limited to: Gathers, compiles, and
evaluates data on damage caused by various wildlife species on the property
of specific cooperators. Modifies or adapts established animal damage
control techniques as necessary to meet local conditions and address
specific environmental, economic, or political considerations. Incumbent
is responsible for participating in and in some cases leading population
indexing surveys of various species on assigned projects. Establishes and
maintains cooperative relationships with other agencies, organizations,
institutions, and industry groups. Communicate safe and effective animal
damage control techniques through extension and other channels to
cooperators. Recommend, through proper channels, issues or problems for
potential research or developmental study. Incumbent is responsible for
overseeing logistics and responsibilities on assigned projects, to include
developing schedules, assigning day to day tasks, assuring these tasks are
completed, and other similar responsibilities as assigned by the State
Director or District Supervisor. Must demonstrate respect for the need for
safety in all operations including the operation of motor vehicles,
firearms, control devices, and equipment. Must have a valid State motor
vehicle operator license, operations of a Government-owned or leased
vehicle is required.
