3. Experience in participating within one or more of the various bird conservation initiative partnerships (Partners in Flight, Shorebird Conservation Plan, Waterbird Conservation for the Americas, North American Waterfowl Management Plan).
4. A capacity to interact on a collegial basis with a broad spectrum of partners, including senior agency staff, ornithologists, and statisticians.
5. Excellent communication skills, including demonstrated leadership in consensus-building and facilitating group workshops.
6. Commitment to the missions of ABC and the Cornell Lab of Ornithology and the importance of monitoring as a component of bird conservation.
7. Willingness to locate in Ithaca, New York, for the three years of this project and, during that time, to travel frequently to regional and national conservation meetings. |

Description: | JOB SUMMARY
American Bird Conservancy (ABC) has received a three-year Multi-State Grant to develop a comprehensive bird monitoring framework for the 13 states of the Northeastern United States. The Northeast Bird Monitoring Coordinator will oversee all aspects of the implementation of this grant. The Coordinator will work closely with the two co-supervising organizations as well as with the Manomet Center for Conservation Sciences, the Northeast Region of the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, all Northeastern state wildlife agencies, and many other partners in the region.
JOB DUTIES
1. Develop a comprehensive bird-monitoring framework for the Northeast, working with partners and building upon numerous existing programs. Complete a framework document at the end of year 1 of the grant.
2. Organize and facilitate two regional workshops per year, designed to gain consensus on the nature and components of this framework, developing a strategy for implementing priority monitoring programs, and developing and facilitating the use of a regional system for data management.
3. Work with partners at Cornell to develop a web site to support this framework and a greatly improved regional monitoring data management system.
4. Manage a subcontract with Manomet to implement monitoring of migrating shorebirds and secretive marshbirds in the Northeast.
5. Manage other subcontracts in which various key components of Northeast bird monitoring will be supported.
6. Facilitate the exchange of information regarding ongoing monitoring efforts and additional monitoring needs among the staff of state agencies and other partners throughout the Northeast.
7. Work with partners to identify and obtain the financial resources necessary to meet regional monitoring objectives and to achieve sustainability of coordinated monitoring programs. |
