The Joseph W. Jones Ecological Research Center

This is a 12-month position, from now to December 2006.

Preference given to those possessing an A.S. or B.S.

Job Requirements: Ability to conduct moderate physical activity in the field under a variety of weather conditions, follow instructions, and work independently or as part of a team. Qualifications: High school diploma with an interest in biology, ecology, forestry, agronomy, or related field. Preference will be given to those with an Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in these fields.

The 28,000-acre Research Center is located approximately 30 miles south of Albany, Georgia. The Center’s research, education, and conservation programs focus on ecology and natural resource management. The site includes 16,000 acres of longleaf pine forests, over 1,000 acres of wetlands, and 26 miles of stream and river ecosystems.

The successful candidate will assist with all aspects of ongoing research, including a variety of field and lab-based work. Field-related activities involve maintenance of irrigation equipment, collecting samples at the whole-plant level as well as assisting with the operation of root minirhizotron equipment. Laboratory duties include processing samples as well as data entry. The employee will also assist with the general maintenance of the laboratory space and equipment. Compensation is $9.00 per hour ($7.00 per hour with onsite housing offered).
