Other: | Bachelor\'s degree in Forest Management, Forest Ecology, Resource Management, or closely related field.
Knowledge of or Skills/Ability to principles, theories, and practices of forestry and/or forest management; principles, theories, and practices of fire management; principles, theories, and practices of land and/or range management; principles, theories, and practices of wildland urban interface issues; principles, theories, and practices of budget management; deal with people in a manner which shows sensitivity, tact, and professionalism; develop fire plans; fire prevention methods; fire detection and supression methods and /or systems; use forestry tools and equipment; principles, theories, and practices of fire fighting, crash/rescue, and fire prevention; supervise others by assigning/directing work; conducting employee evaluations, staff training and development, taking appropriate disciplinary/corrective actions, making hiring/termination recommendations, etc.; principles, theories, and practices of public administration; principles, theories, and practices of public relations; compose and produce reports, documents and related material; communicate information and ideas clearly, and concisely, in writing; read and understand information presented in writing; fiscal/financial management; agency and/or organizational program(s). Considerable field work (walking and hiking in all weather conditions). General office conditions. Must be able to pass the fire fighter pack test at the arduous level.

Description: | Job characteristics
Supervises and manages area staff; supervises the delivery of various programs and services to customers within a specific geographical area; provides lead responsibility for the planning and delivery of forestry, fire and sovereign land management actions at the local level effectively utilizing available resources; coordinates with other state, federal and local agencies as well as the general public and other cooperators/customers.
Tasks
Manages one or more statewide or agency wide program(s). Determines program goals and objectives and/or chairs committees established to support the program. Develops and directs forestry management, sovereign land management, and/or land development programs. Supervises subordinate personnel including: hiring, determining workload and delegating assignments, training, monitoring and evaluating performance, and initiating corrective or disciplinary actions. Develops appropriate safety and/or service plans to alleviate risk, provide protection, etc. Performs firefighting and rescue services. Manages accounting or budget activities and provides fiscal information. Writes or drafts correspondence, reports, documents and/or other written materials. Furnishes the public with information on the objectives and activities of a state agency.
