CAPPS Project #4

Basic Wood Properties of Intensively Managed Loblolly Pine Plantations

Objectives

1) To determine the effect of fertilization, vegetation control and fertilization plus vegetation control on annual earlywood and latewood radial growth, wood specific gravity, and formation of juvenile and mature wood using increment cores taken from loblolly pine trees at the Waycross and B.F. Grant sites of the Acid Rain study.

2) To determine the effects of fertilization, vegetation control and fertilization plus vegetation control on wood quality along the entire main stem (mechanical and physical properties) of destructively sampled trees from the Waycross and B.F. Grant installations of the Acid Rain Study.

3) To correlate the data obtained from increment cores (objective 1) with data obtained from destructively sampled trees (objective 2).
